Designing The Challenge

Individual vs. Group Challenge

Not all challenges must pit employees against one another. You can also create individual challenges where each participant attempts to reach a pre-determined goal. An example of this would be a weight-loss challenge with a target goal of losing 10 pounds. Every participant who reaches that goal in the given date range would be eligible for an award.
While an individual challenge might not provide some of the positive effects of a group challenge such as camaraderie and, in this example, weight loss above 10 pounds, it can be viewed as more egalitarian since everyone is capable of winning. It can also provide more privacy as a leader board would not be necessary. In any case, individual challenges might be a good way to add variety if more competitions are planned in the future.
